In its fifth grant cycle, Community Assets Grants are targeted to organizations that increase tourism, enhance places, and develop culture. By doing so, they improve Erie’s chances of attracting and retaining skilled workers and innovative and invested employers.

ECGRA Executive Director Perry Wood said, “Today’s funded Community Assets have ownership of some of Erie’s most cherished historical sites, cultural programs, and family activities. Most us know and love them—they are part of what makes Erie home and why visitors from across the country choose to play here.”

Three ECGRA Community Assets were featured at today’s press conference: Chanel Cook of the Martin Luther King Center board of directors spoke about the center’s recent collaboration with Erie Dance Theater; Bayfront Maritime Center Executive Director Rich Eisenberg and Porcupine project manager and future captain Jamie Trost presented on the schooner and the Schoolship for Presque Isle Bay; and the Young Artists Debut Orchestra, the region’s only youth chamber orchestra, played two selections for the audience.

Ainslie Brosig, executive director of ECGRA Lead Asset expERIEnce Children’s Museum, and Shawnta Pulliam, founder of Nurturing Hearts, joined the ECGRA Regional Assets Committee in reviewing 40 Community Assets Grants applications totaling more than $500,000 in requested funds. Any 501c3 organization headquartered in Erie County was eligible to apply for up to $15,000; a 1:1 cash match was required. Grantees must use monies within 12 months of distribution.
